Marking their first ever trip outside of Solihull College’s Blossomfield Campus, Eeyore and Archie the well-loved College donkeys have helped local school children recreate the religious story of Easter. St Alphege Infant School in Solihull was this week encouraging pupils to celebrate the Christian festival by adding a practical element to the story telling.
Pupils were led through different scenes around the school that illustrated Palm Sunday- including the use of the donkeys – and the Last Supper, when children ate food and listened to a story about what happened to Jesus when he was arrested.
Sarah Furmage, RE Coordinator at the school comments: “??It has been great to be involved with the animal care team at the College, the children have enjoyed working with the donkeys and by being able to be around them it has given them a positive and memorable learning experience of the Easter story”?.
Eeyore and Archie live alongside the other College Land-based animals including goats, pigs, chickens and sheep. The Land-based facility at the College is one of the largest in the Midlands and has been described as one of the College’s “??best kept secrets”?.
Claire Powell, Animal Care Centre Coordinator at the College comments: “We have all really enjoyed today. This has been a big outing for the donkeys and they have been incredibly well-behaved, especially as they have been working with young children. It has also been good experience for our animal care students learning how to manage the animals outside the College”?.
