A Carpentry apprentice from Solihull College & University Centre is celebrating passing his two-year apprenticeship whilst working for local developer Persimmon Homes.

Drew Farnsworth completed his level two qualification at the developer’s Orchard Mews site in Shirley.

Construction Trades Lead Assessor and Lecturer, Martin Gregory, commented: “Drew has been an exceptional apprentice who has excelled in his practical and theory work at the college. Drew has demonstrated all the essential qualities required for employability and the future generation of the construction industry with his outstanding commitment to detail in his carpentry practical work, attitude for good timekeeping, and attendance.”

Drew is now progressing onto his Level 3 apprenticeship. Managing Director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, Russell Griffin, commented: “At Persimmon, we’re passionate about developing future talent and equipping our apprentices with the practical skills they need to thrive in the working world, as well as ensuring they have the necessary theoretical background from our partnerships with local colleges.

“It’s a delight to work with our apprentices on a daily basis, helping to coach them throughout the early stages of their career and watch them develop their skills.”

Drew commented: “The apprenticeship has been great in understanding how a fast-paced company like Persimmon works – the scale of it and the timings too – I’ve worked alongside so many different people and you learn something new from everyone which just helps to improve my skills. I would love to have my own company one day and work alongside Persimmon on new build properties.”
