Friday, 18 September, 2015

A Solihull College GCSE English tutor Cheryl Powell, has given her students the inspiration to achieve after having a short story published in an anthology as a result of being shortlisted in the South Wales writing competition.

The short story has been published in ‘Breaking the Surface’ which is now available to purchase and consists of 12 short stories from the Candy Jar Books competition. Cheryl’s story is called ‘Imaginary Friends’ and tells the story about a person who believes she has many friends yet it turns out these friends are ghosts. Cheryl is a member of the Solihull writer’s workshop and has written many stories with the group. She commented:

“I’ve had some stories published a few years back but since then I’ve been on and off with my writing – the Solihull writer’s workshop has certainly helped me develop an interest for writing again.”

Cheryl can now share her success with her students and inspire them to continue with their writing in the hope of following in her footsteps in getting their work published.
