An Animal Welfare lecturer from Solihull College & University Centre has reached the top 25 shortlist of an international pet photography competition. The International Pet Photographer of the Year Awards is a worldwide competition that runs each year. Lecturer Jenni Jeffries, 34 from Meriden, placed in the top 100 in last year’s competition but entered the ‘Open’ category for the first time this year. She submitted three photographs with one placing impressively in the Top 25 shortlist. A remarkable achievement with over 2500 photographs entering the awards.
Jenni explains: “It’s something a little different to my usual style and I was delighted to be placed in the top25.It means a lot to be recognised by industry experts- it means I am doing something right.” It was a stunning shot of a golden retriever with a fairy light that earned her the top 25 placing. Jenni has been teaching Animal Behaviour Welfare at the College for over ten year sand is proud of the College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She states: “This has been a challenging academic year but in a good way. Teaching online has been so useful and I used my own dogs as demos to teach the behavioural element to classes whilst we were unable to be on campus.”
Jenni was also able to work on her photography during lockdown. Teaching herself to use a DSLR she started photograph in her colleague’s dogs back in 2017 before starting her own pet photography business in 2018. Specialising in dog portrait photography using natural light she has spent the last few years developing her unique style.
