Where will this course lead?

This course is ideal for developing your sewing skills. It will cover all aspects of garment making from selecting a pattern to the finishing touches. These skills may help you towards a career in the field of fashion.

What will I study?

On the course you will learn the following:
- Plan and produce garments
- How to use a commercial pattern which can lead to developing skills in pattern cutting.
- Measuring
- Sewing styles
- Fabrics
- Gain confidence using sewing machines and other sewing equipment
 

How will this course be delivered?

This is a practical course and is designed so that students are enabled to work on individual projects. The delivery is led by tutor demonstration.

What qualifications will I get?

This is a personal development programme.

How will I be assessed?

This course is for personal development and is informally assessed by the tutor with self-assessment and evaluation by the student.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be aged 19+

What else do I need to know?

The tutor will inform you on the first session of any tools and equipment that are required. They will also have a list of suppliers where these will be available. Sewing machines are available for student use while at the centre.

Please note: Materials are not supplied for Cakes, Flowers/Floristry, Textiles, Soft Furnishings, Homemade Crafts, Calligraphy, Art, Cookery, Tiling, Painting & Decorating, Sewing or Dressmaking.

Students are responsible for providing their own materials and books.

What can I do after this course?

We also offer a range of courses for adults, as well as Wider Family Learning courses designed for adults and children to learn together.
