Solihull College & University Centre recently teamed up with GPS Healthcare GP Practice and Solihull Round Table to welcome a drive-through flu vaccination clinic on to its Blossomfield Campus last weekend.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, GPS Healthcare were seeking an innovative approach to facilitating the administration of flu vaccinations to their local community. The College was happy to support and provide use of one of its Blossomfield Campus car parks and Solihull Round Table also kindly provided the 4 car-port gazebos and additional support throughout the weekend. Primary Care Nurse Lead for NHS England Karen Storey also travelled down from Leeds to see the innovative work in action.
GPS Healthcare managed to administer over 2,000 flu vaccinations to patients in the safety of their own cars. The event was very well received by those who attended. Patient Mike Moran stated: “The flu vaccination experience was superbly organised with marshals at all key points directing traffic, no queues and injections delivered expertly and efficiently. I would repeat the process again if necessary.”
Susan Cypress, Administration Assistant for Conference, Events and Employer Services at the College helped to organise the event alongside GPS. She comments: “There was a community feel to the proceedings and wonderful feedback from the patients about the process and organisation. The event worked really well indeed and was a first for all involved.”
Dr Lucy Hillman, from GPS Healthcare added: “We were all so pleased with how the weekend went with countless positive feedback remarks from our patients about how smoothly the service ran. This was only made possible by the College and Solihull Roundtable and we are very grateful for their support. We are so proud to be part of such great innovative community teamwork for the benefit of our Solihull residents.“
