Students from Solihull College & University Centre have revisited Touchwood Shopping Centre to hold another successful art exhibition. This year’s show, ‘Tint’ aimed to explore, express and promote the work of artists at the College among the local community. The exhibition has been an excellent opportunity for the artists to showcase outstanding displays of creativity and for them to come together and collaborate to produce some stunning mixed media pieces using one another’s creative skillset.
Last year the students created the award winning ‘Defy Complacency’ exhibit which recently won a Sceptre award for the collaboration between the College and Touchwood. It therefore made sense for the organisations to work together again. 2018’s exhibition featured a range of installation pieces. Projects were on show including Beata Miller’s incredible Fine Art Photography inspired by Old Masters and the Pre-Raphaelites paintings. Using photographs of her fellow students, Beata inserted them into a pre-Raphaelite style painting creating stunning displays.
27 exhibits were on show this year ranging from fine art and photography; to more media based work such as film. Student Lewis Clemment’s 20 minute film titled ‘Eviction’ was even screened at local cinema Cineworld twice. Art student Lucy Ingleston who has played a big part in putting on the exhibitions is coming to the end of her course. Lucy is hoping to partner up with fellow student Laura Parkes to create their very own freelance business.
Fellow students Tarnya Trainor and Avery Thomas were impressed with their tutors. Tarnya stated “I couldn’t have achieved what I have without them” and Avery who is in her 3rd year of a fine art degree added “I did a BTEC foundation and then a degree. I loved the staff, they really supported me.” Avery hopes to go on to study a Masters in Fashion Styling in the future.
Touchwood General Manager Tony Elvin, said “At Touchwood we are passionate about offering the best guest experience at all times. It was a pleasure to work with the College and help to provide a platform for local talent to be properly recognised.”
The event drew to a close on 4th July 2018 and the College and Touchwood hope they can build on the success of their award winning partnership and are hopeful of another collaboration next year.
