Solihull College and University Centre offers guidance at World of Learning Conference
Tuesday, 21 November, 2017

In October, Solihull College & University Centre joined the World of Learning Conference at the NEC in Birmingham for a two day conference. The event provided a unique forum for training providers to update their knowledge about different training solutions and ensure their businesses stayed ahead of the game. Representatives from the College had the opportunity to meet a variety of training providers, and demonstrate how the College is at the forefront of innovation with investment in facilities for staff and students.

As a training provider, Solihull College & University Centre were able to direct employers on the benefit of apprenticeships, and how the college guarantees training with them means apprentices leave with the necessary skills to be valuable to any employer. The conference proved a fantastic platform for Solihull College & University Centre to demonstrate everything they have to offer.

The event was also attended by one of the colleges ex-students, Shaun Dumingan, who left the college in 2016 after completing a Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeship in Customer Service. After winning the Solihull BID apprentice of the year award in 2015, Shaun was successfully promoted to the events coordinator for Solihull Registry Office. Shaun kindly offered to aid College staff at the event, giving employers a valuable insight into the apprentice experience, and praised Solihull College & University Centre for how well supported he felt by the college during his apprenticeship.

The College’s presence at the conference gave them the opportunity to further highlight their services to Small and Medium Enterprises in the form of the college’s ‘Business Elevator’ project, in which the employer services team identify skills gaps in local businesses and provide a training needs analysis for free, furthering the college’s commitment to working with businesses in the local area.

Nadia Davis, SME Account Manager at Solihull College & University Centre, said “We were delighted to be at this year’s World of Learning Conference & Exhibition amongst the array of innovation and aspiration.  Above all we were delighted to be supported by Shaun Dumigan from SMBC who shared his own experience of being a Solihull College Apprentice with those who attended.
