Tuesday, 17 May, 2016

Students at Solihull College & University Centre are set to showcase their work next week at their Plus One art exhibition.

Plus One brings together students from a number of creative disciplines studying on Higher Level courses at Solihull College and University Centre. The exhibition showcases the best works from a diverse range of students completing their programmes at the college.

Examples of animation, photography and typography sit alongside Fine Art, installation and product design. Courses represented at the exhibition are HND Graphic Design course, HND Photography, HND Creative media (Moving Image) as well as courses as part of the Colleges ongoing and very successful partnership with Oxford Brookes, including Creative Arts and Design Practice Top-up and BA Fine Art. This partnership has enhanced the experience offered to students at the college and continues to provide opportunity for progression and development for those who enrol on our courses. In an ever changing creative landscape and an increasingly challenging job market for graduates it is fantastic to see such a broad range of skills utilised by the students on show. Employability skills form and important part of all of the HE courses offered at the college and the development of a range of skills that can be applied in any number of ways in any number of scenarios is key to that philosophy.

The show includes work from award winning students who have medalled in the Star Pack Packaging Design Awards as well as those who have previously exhibited with Oxford Brookes University and been shortlisted for awards such as Food Photographer of the Year.

Phil Barber, Foundation Art and Design Course Leader at the College commented: “We continue to be impressed and incredibly proud of our students; their success justifies how hard we push them to challenge themselves and succeed. Our graduates leave us prepared to be diverse, creative, flexible and open to the challenges that lie ahead of them. This exhibition is a public celebration of their talent and hard work. The staff would like to congratulate the students on their achievements and thank them for an exciting year (or more) of study.”

The exhibition will be on display at Market Hall Gallery, Custard Factory, Digbeth in Birmingham from 24th May till 26th May.
