Solihull College & University Centre travel and tourism student Cashesa Richards will be jetting off to Virginia, America to work for Camp America this summer.
Cashesa has gone through a tough interview process which included an application form, interview, videos, photographs and volunteering. The application process was 5 months long in total and now Cashesa has had the news that she was waiting for; she has a place on the Camp America scheme. She was able to display the skills she has learnt whilst at College and display her knowledge of travel. Cashesa comments “Before I started College I wasn’t very confident and the course has definitely helped me with that. I am more confident and I will now be living away from home and experiencing different challenges.”
As a travel student Cashesa has always had a passion for travel and has been waiting until she turned 18 to be able to apply for Camp America as she wants to be able to take her passion for travel further. She will complete her travel and tourism qualification before leaving for Virginia on 6th June where she will have the opportunity to teach American campers using a variety of different activities – and be paid to do so.
Cashesa will also get the chance to travel on her days off and she plans to travel round America once she has completed the 9 week camp. When she returns to the UK Cashesa has also secured her place at university. In September she will be attending the University of Northampton to study International Tourism Management. Cashesa has been able to visit a variety of different workplaces whilst studying at Solihull College and wants to follow her dreams to become a member of cabin crew for Emirates.
