College launches new Cyber Security course
Thursday, 10 March, 2016

Solihull College & University Centre has launched a new computing course in time for the next academic year in September.

Students at the College will now be able to study a BTEC Extended National Diploma in Cyber Security which could lead them on to jobs within the field. According to recent statistics from ‘Business Insider UK’ there were nearly 300 million records leaked and over $1billion stolen in 2015 with many people directly affected in the UK with companies such as Talk Talk, Nissan, Facebook and a number of dating websites falling victims to cybercrime.

In the modern digital world companies are now seeking employees trained in the area of cyber security to ensure that data is protected and there is no way for ‘hackers’ to gain access to private information or finances. Therefore the need for specialists trained in this area is forever growing and this is why courses such as the BTEC Diploma at Solihull College are greatly important.

Students will have the chance to work with computers to solve problems as well as develop their general IT skills but most importantly will focus on the causes and prevention of cybercrime which will be hugely appealing to employers.

Students at the College, once they have completed their BTEC Diploma, can progress to complete their HND in Computing or related fields or enter employment directly from the course.  The College has already created great links with global companies such as CGI, who have departments specialising in cyber security, to be able to offer students valuable work experience within the industry.

For more information on the cyber security course or other courses available at Solihull College & University Centre visit the open evenings on Tuesday 19th April for Blossomfield Campus and Wednesday 20th April for Woodlands Campus or call 0121 678 7000.
